The next interview in my series of comedian… interviews is Todd Barry.
Todd Barry is a New York based comic working harder than the President of the United States to make sure you laugh.* He’s performed in plenty of comedy festivals around the world, he’s opened for Sugar Ray [correction: he’s been asked to open - he didn’t actually do it] and he’s been in his own one man show, Icky, based on his encounters with the Conan O’Brien newsgroup. His new CD Falling off the Bone on Comedy Central Records is in stores now, not to mention a re-release of his first CD. He’s also featured on the Invite Them Up CD/DVD.
IRONIC GAMER: Does Todd Barry care enough about himself to tell us his story?
TODD BARRY: Not right now.
IG: Which country has the best comedy festival?
TB: All the festivals I’ve been to are good, but I probably had the best time at the Melbourne Festival in Australia, and the Kilkenny Festival, Ireland. I did one in Brighton, UK that was quite good, also. And Monreal, also.
IG: How much Patriotism does it take to be asked to do a USO Comedy Tour?
TB: Lots and lots.
IG: What’s it like going from the Ann Arbor Comedy Festival one day to a place called Zanie’s the next?
TB: I’m not playing the “Ann Arbor Comedy Festival” I’m playing the Ann Arbor Comedy Showcase, which is a club. [ed. note: Mee-ouch!]
IG: Do you save your receipts after you’ve uploaded them to your site?
TB: I probably have them somewhere.
IG: What’s your experience with video games?
TB: I’ve never been a big video game guy. I prefer pinball.
IG: Did you play mostly at home or at the arcade?
TB: Either at an arcade or someone’s house. I’ve never had an Xbox or anything like that.
IG: Why did you stop playing games? Was it an age thing? Lack of interest?
TB: All of the above?
IG: Do you have to be friends with Chevy Chase before you can roast him?
TB: Clearly you don’t.
IG: Has video technology ruined the magic of golf?
TB: Nothing can ruin the “magic” of golf.
