A 16-year-old student, Syafiq Hussin, broke into a house in Clementi, Singapore, and stabbed an occupant who had tried to stop him. Syafiq did all these just to fund his online gaming addiction. He planned the theft after his parents refused to hand in cash to allow him to indulge in gaming accessories and game cards for MMORPGs.

“He felt a sense of thrill and fun when he did that. He felt like one of the characters from his computer games and he started living the game,” said Ms Hemalatha, the accused’s lawyer.
