Can MGS4 Move 1 Million Units On Day 1?

Metal Gear Solid 4 just might be screwed.
OK. So not really screwed…it is Metal Gear Solid 4, after all. But, it definitely has a tough row to hoe.
Konami is saying that MGS4 needs to sell 1 million units on the first day to recoup production costs. [That’s a little less than 1/2 of Halo 3 units moved on day 1]
That’s going to be a pretty tough target to hit. Not only is MGS4 a PS3 exclusive game but Konami pissed a lot of people off by pushing the game back.
Do I think that delaying the game is going to prevent rabid Metal Gear Solid fans from buying the game?
No.
Do I think that Konami might have pissed people off just enough so that they wait for a used copy to turn up?
Maybe.

Exclusivity is definitely going the way of the Dodo and the high sales “requirements” that are being put on MGS4 is a prime example of why most third party exclusives are a thing of the past.
However, Komani is a loyal sort of company and I have to respect what Ryan Payton, the assistant producer on MGS4, said about the game.
“We’re telling our fans that if you want to play Metal Gear Solid 4, you have to buy a PS3. The PlayStation brand has always been good to us, and we’re pretty bullish on the PS3″.
Rock on, Ryan!
Maybe the price drop of the PS3 and the 360’s ongoing “issues” can drive both Sony and Konami’s sales.
I’ll keep my fingers crossed.
