Jeff Gerstmann Canned!
Oh the rumor mills, they are abuzz!
The gist of the rumor is that Jeff Gerstmann, now former reviews editor for GameSpot, was fired because of his negative review of Kane and Lynch.
More specifically, he was fired because Eidos, publisher of Kane and Lynch and major GameSpot advertiser, was pissed off by Gerstmann’s review and threatened to pull their advertising dough.
Here are a couple of the facts:
#1 Gerstmann published his review of Kane and Lynch on the 13th of November.
#2 Gerstmann gave the game a 6/10.
#3 Gerstmann no longer works for GameSpot.
Everything else is just conjecture [for now]. But, it’s still some pretty provocative and compelling conjecture nonetheless.
It all boils down to the idea that advertisers have their hands in the editorial content cookie jar.
If all of the rumors flying around are true, can you really trust the reviews on GameSpot?
